The fight over evolution?

In what seems to be a never-ending battle, the question of what Christians should make of evolution is one that is re-occurring in public square — especially when it comes to public school education.

This month, Ted Peters, Emeritus Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California, outlines the various takes on explaining evolution and the labels thereof that have been created over the decades.

Covalence Theological Editor George Murphy took some time reading the headlines in his home state of Ohio, where there is an ongoing controversy regarding new legislation allowing for “religious liberty” in the public school setting and what it means for the teaching of science.

Last but not least, we also outline important initiatives and leadership in the broader global religion and science dialogue taking place in Chicago, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

As many congregations prepare for the Clergy Letter Project’s Evolution Weekend, this issue couldn’t be more timely!
