Coming up on June 22-28, high school students will be pondering ways to address climate change in light of their faith at this summer’s Gustavus Academy for Faith, Science and Ethics at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The program now in its third year is titled “Faith and Science in a Changing Climate: Modeling a Just Response.”

The Gustavus Academy was established via a Lilly Endowment grant to introduce high school youth to alliances between scientists and religious leaders who are addressing global issues such as climate change and food security. Beginning in June 2016, the summer program combined worship, science labs, and interaction with leading scientists and theologians.

Students will ask how they might best use their own gifts and talents to address climate change, how faith fits with their interests in math or science and lastly whether they are looking for a community that shares their concerns and interests.

Four speakers have been lined-up to participate in the week-long camp that runs from June 22 through June 28.

Speakers include: Rev. Dr. Barbara Rossing, Professor of New Testament at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; James Martin-Schramm, Professor of Religion at Luther College; Jeff Jeremiason, Professor of Chemistry and Program Director in Environmental Studies at Gustavus Adolphus College; and Rev. Abby Mohaupt, Moderator of Fossil Free PCUSA and Co-Director of the Green Seminary Initiative.
